Coach Xavi once again spoke out about his possibility of leaving Barcelona.
In early November 2021, Barca appointed Xavi to replace Koeman. After helping Blaugrana win the Spanish Super Cup and La Liga in the 2022-23 season, Xavi was rewarded with a new contract at the end of September last year (extended until June 2025).
Since Xavi signed a new contract, Barca has gradually declined. This puts the coach’s future at Camp Nou in big question.
Two days ago, after losing to Bilbao in the quarterfinals of the King’s Cup, Xavi hinted that he would leave Barcelona. According to former Al Sadd coach, his future depends on titles, and if Barca cannot compete for titles, he will have to leave at the end of this season.
Similarly after the loss to Bilbao, in the press conference before the match against Villarreal in round 22 of La Liga, coach Xavi also hinted at the possibility of parting ways with Barca.
Answering a question about his future, Xavi said: “I am calm about my future. I’ve been here for 2 and a half years and my contract has another year and a half left. Pep Guardiola has been with Barcelona for 4 years, and Luis Enrique has been here for 3 years. Then the time will come for me to leave.”
The Spanish military leader continued: “The team’s board of directors told me to forget about leaving. They are satisfied with the team’s project, the president (Laporta) is also proud and we have discussed next season’s plans with Deco (director). Rumors about whether I stay or leave Barcelona have appeared since August last year. Currently, I am still here.”
According to Spanish media, President Laporta has quietly found someone to replace Xavi. The coach that the Catalan lawyer is targeting is Thiago Motta, a former Barca player who is leading Bologna.
