Coach Xavi’s future at Barca is facing risks when he no longer has support in the dressing room.
ESPN reported that several Barca players turned their backs on coach Xavi and began to question the Spanish coach’s approach and decision-making. A group of players on the team think they are being treated too harshly by Xavi. However, Xavi believes that he is still receiving support from his students.
The conflict within the team is said to have started from the match against Almeria in December. That was a match that Barca barely won with a score of 3-2. Coach Xavi said some harsh words at halftime and this made a few players upset.
Despite losing the trust of a group of players in the team, Xavi is still receiving support from sports director Deco and president Joan Laporta. Members of the board of directors all believe in Xavi’s abilities despite the club’s poor and unstable performances this season.
Coach Pep Guardiola also recently sent a message of support to Xavi and the Barca players after they lost an embarrassing 1-4 to rival Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final.
Earlier this season, Xavi signed a new contract to stay at Barca until 2025. It will also be very difficult for Barca to part with Xavi before the contract expires because they will lose a significant compensation fee in the context of the situation. Finances are still strained.
