Manchester United is urgently working to finalize the signing of midfielder Manuel Ugarte following their first defeat of the season against Brighton. The result has heightened concerns among MU fans about the team’s defensive midfield, particularly as Casemiro, despite his efforts, is no longer in top form.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United is close to completing the deal for Ugarte. PSG has accepted the €50 million transfer fee proposed by MU, and Ugarte himself is reportedly eager to join Old Trafford. However, there are still some ancillary terms that need to be resolved before the contract is finalized.

If everything proceeds smoothly, Ugarte could potentially make his debut before the crucial match against Liverpool, scheduled for 22:00 on September 1 (Hanoi time). Even if the contract is completed in time, however, it remains uncertain whether Ugarte will be fit to start in this match, given the limited time for him to train and integrate with his new team.

Since the start of the summer transfer window 2024, Manchester United has spent a total of €165 million to bring in four new signings: Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, and Noussair Mazraoui. Despite the substantial investment, the results on the pitch have not yet met the high expectations of the fans. The addition of Ugarte is hoped to improve defensive stability and bring the necessary consistency to the team.
