Manchester United has confirmed the permanent transfer of Facundo Pellistri to Panathinaikos for a fee of £6.8 million. The breakdown of the transfer includes £5.1 million up front, with an additional £1.7 million in potential add-ons.
The deal also includes a buy-back clause valid until 2027 and entitles Manchester United to 45% of any future transfer fee if Panathinaikos sells Pellistri.
Pellistri, who joined United from Club Atlético Peñarol in 2020 for approximately £9 million, has struggled to secure a regular spot in the first team. Over his four-year stint at Old Trafford, he made only 25 appearances for the senior squad. He spent the previous season on loan at Granada in La Liga, where he notably scored in a 3-3 draw against Barcelona in February.
Panathinaikos has welcomed Pellistri with enthusiasm. On their official website, the Greek club stated: “Panathinaikos is pleased to announce the acquisition of Facundo Pellistri from Manchester United. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder from Uruguay has signed a four-year contract and will enhance the team with his excellent talent and remarkable playing qualities.”
Manchester United also commented: “Facundo Pellistri has joined Panathinaikos on a permanent transfer. The Uruguayan player, who represented his country in the Copa America this summer, is moving to Greece to continue his career.”
