In a recent video on his personal YouTube channel, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand expressed his dissatisfaction with the club’s decision to sell Scott McTominay.

After prolonged negotiations, multiple sources in the UK indicate that Manchester United and Napoli are close to finalizing a transfer deal for Scott McTominay. The midfielder, who came through United’s Carrington academy, is set to join the Serie A side at the Diego Maradona Stadium.

Ferdinand shared his concerns on his YouTube channel, stating, “I look at Scott McTominay, and not every player can become a star or standout. But to win, you need players like John O’Shea, Wes Brown, Darren Fletcher… You need a Julian Alvarez.”

“They may not start every game, but you need those types of players, and they all understand the club’s DNA, especially those who have come through the academy. It really doesn’t sit right with me. To replace him, you’d have to spend £30 million or £40 million and pay £150,000 a week.”

“It won’t be cheap and is a gamble, as you don’t know what you’ll get. With McTominay, you know what you’re getting. He might not always hit 9/10, but he is definitely a 7/10 and sometimes an 8/10, and he’ll score goals for you.”
