President Joan Laporta has asserted that Barcelona is now in a position to recruit top players, following a challenging summer that involved registering Dani Olmo.

Barcelona signed Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig this summer for £46 million. However, he was unable to play in the first two matches of the new season because Barcelona had exceeded their spending limit and could not register him with La Liga.

Eventually, Dani Olmo was registered after Ilkay Gündogan returned to Manchester City and Andreas Christensen faced a long-term injury with a heel issue, creating room in the wage budget.

When asked if Barcelona would be able to spend normally in January, President Joan Laporta responded: “Yes, we will be able to sign players normally in January, as we plan to return to La Liga’s 1:1 rule (the rule allowing player signings without restrictions) by then.

We can sign players; the issue is registering them with the league. It will be easier once we are subject to the 1:1 rule.

At the moment, we are not focusing on any players for January because we are satisfied with our current squad. However, Deco and his team are working hard to analyze what we need in the medium and long term.

We are pleased with what we have. Dani Olmo was a priority target, and we signed him. I stated that we could make a big signing, and we have proven that to be true.”
