After hearing that coach Juergen Klopp will not continue to lead Liverpool when the 2023/24 season ends, former MU defender Rio Ferdinand advised The Kop’s board to invite his former friend, Xabi Alonso, to return to Anfield.

Alonso spent 5 years playing for Liverpool (from 2004 to 2009) before retiring and becoming a coach. He is currently working in Germany as captain of Leverkusen Club. Even without much coaching experience, coach Alonso is still highly appreciated by Ferdinand. In Ferdinand’s opinion, Alonso is the ideal choice for the position of coach Klopp’s successor at Liverpool.

Speaking to the press, Ferdinand said: “If Liverpool can soon invite coach Alonso to cooperate, it will definitely be a great thing. It will be even more wonderful if Leverkusen can maintain their unbeaten record in the Bundesliga this season and advance to championship”.

“Actually, regardless of whether Leverkusen wins the Silver Plate or not, what coach Alonso has done in the 2023/24 Bundesliga so far is very impressive. Alonso was a talented player before and now he also shows I’m very cool as a coach.”

“Coach Alonso promises to bring benefits to Liverpool because he has had many years of dedication to the club. Even though he no longer plays for Liverpool, Coach Alonso is still loved by the fans here. At this time, Coach Alonso only has A small limitation is not having much experience, but I don’t think that’s enough of a problem to make Liverpool worry,” Ferdinand concluded.

True to Ferdinand’s statement, coach Alonso is making a good impression at Leverkusen. Under his leadership, Leverkusen has not yet suffered any defeat and won 15 victories after 19 rounds in the 2023/24 Bundesliga. At this time, Leverkusen is leading the rankings with 2 points more than defending champion Bayern ranked 2nd (49 compared to 47).
