President Joan Laporta asserts that Barcelona has the financial strength to make significant signings at this time.

“Our financial situation has improved significantly,” Marca quoted President Laporta when asked about the transfer of Nico Williams. “We are almost back to normal financial conditions.”

“Currently, Barca can sign big names as we did before. We will soon clarify our financial situation,” the club head confirmed.

President Laporta’s statement surprised many. Barca is said to need to raise funds to break Nico Williams’ €58 million contract with Athletic Bilbao.

In fact, AS revealed that after negotiations with Athletic Bilbao, Barca is considering borrowing Nico Williams, with a buyout clause at the end of the 2024/25 season. The Catalan club does not have enough money to pay the €58 million release clause.

According to Cadena Ser, Barca does not have much money to cover transfer costs. To solve this problem, the Catalan club will contact banking organizations to seek a new loan.

Barca plans to recruit Williams to strengthen their attack. This young player, along with Lamine Yamal, promises to reunite and form a formidable duo as they showed at Euro 2024.
