Coach Antonio Conte has expressed regret that Scott McTominay was unable to play against Parma and has also set a date for the midfielder’s debut with Napoli.
Scott McTominay is one of Napoli’s new signings for the summer of 2024, arriving from Manchester United for a fee of around €30 million. The Serie A club also brought in another Premier League midfielder, Billy Gilmour, who previously played for Brighton.
In addition to these two midfielders, striker Romelu Lukaku is also a notable new addition to Napoli, with the club spending €35 million to acquire the Belgian from Chelsea. Napoli was unable to sell Victor Osimhen but allowed him to join Galatasaray on loan instead.
In the match against Parma, Lukaku made his debut, scoring immediately and helping Napoli come from behind to win 2-1. However, Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay were not registered in time for this game.
Antonio Conte admitted he was disappointed that Scott McTominay couldn’t play against Parma and has confirmed when the midfielder will make his Napoli debut. He said: “We tried to register McTominay and Gilmour for the Parma game, but we didn’t have enough time to do so.
Now they will focus on their national teams and will return closer to the match against Cagliari (September 15). I have spoken with them; they are both top midfielders with a lot of experience. I trust that they will quickly integrate and showcase their abilities.”
