Alan Shearer has asserted that Erik ten Hag has only two matches left to try and keep his position as Manchester United’s manager.
Manchester United was thrashed 3-0 by Liverpool at Old Trafford last weekend, a result that dropped them to 14th place in the Premier League table after three matches.
Ten Hag’s United has faced criticism for their performances this season, especially after spending over £200 million on new signings during the summer.
Alan Shearer believes Ten Hag must deliver strong performances in the next two games if he wants to avoid an early dismissal from the club.
“Manchester United’s results need to improve quickly if Ten Hag wants to stay at the club until Christmas. A lot depends on the results of the next two matches.
After the defeat to Brighton and the performance in the loss to Liverpool, if the team doesn’t show significant improvement in the upcoming matches, it will be very difficult for Ten Hag. The boos will only get louder.”
After the international break, Manchester United will face Southampton, the only team in the Premier League yet to earn any points this season. They will then play Barnsley in the third round of the Carabao Cup and later face Crystal Palace away. This is a relatively manageable fixture list that could allow United to secure vital points.
Last week, Alan Shearer criticized Marcus Rashford after the player was substituted in the match against Brighton. In response, Ten Hag described Shearer’s analysis as “foolish.”
