Graeme Souness has told Raheem Sterling that no major Premier League club wants to sign him in the summer of 2024.
Just two years after moving to Stamford Bridge for a £45 million transfer fee, Sterling’s career at Chelsea appears to be over after coach Maresca dropped him from the first team and instructed him to leave the club.
The forward was left out of The Blues’ squad for their match against Man City last Sunday. Following that, Maresca publicly stated that Sterling and teammate Ben Chilwell should find new clubs. Even Sterling’s number 7 shirt at Chelsea has been handed over to new signing Pedro Neto.
With just over a week left in the transfer window, all eyes are on where he will go. The former Liverpool and Man City star prefers to stay in the Premier League. However, Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has dismissed that possibility, believing no club in England can afford the wages or transfer fee of the former Man City star. He said:
“Raheem Sterling’s future lies in Saudi Arabia. He’ll go there for two reasons, one being the money he’ll get there. I don’t think any club in this country can pay the wages he’s earning at Chelsea. I also don’t think any top Premier League club wants to spend money to sign him.”
Italian side Juventus and Turkish club Fenerbahce have been linked with Sterling, but neither can afford his £300,000-a-week wages, currently the highest at Chelsea.
These two clubs are reportedly interested in a loan deal for Sterling, but they are only willing to pay a portion of his salary. Moving to Saudi Arabia is a possibility, but whether the 1994-born player is willing to leave Europe for Asia remains uncertain.
