According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Mikel Merino is set to become Arsenal’s third summer signing.
Mikel Merino has been a key player for Real Sociedad in recent seasons and recently won Euro 2024 with Spain. His impressive performances have attracted interest from major clubs, with Arsenal being the most eager to secure his signature.
Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay traveled to London to finalize the terms of the transfer with Arsenal. Aperribay is pushing for Arsenal to accept a transfer fee of €40 million, with the possibility of installment payments.
Romano recently revealed that Mikel Merino is on the verge of becoming Arsenal’s third summer signing. He stated on his social media: “The negotiations for Mikel Merino to join Arsenal have progressed smoothly. Direct talks between the two clubs in London are going very well, and Merino has requested to leave Real Sociedad. Details are being finalized, and Merino is set to join Arsenal.”
Although Merino has one year remaining on his contract, the €40 million fee is considered somewhat high by some. However, the option for installment payments may be why Arsenal is willing to proceed with the deal for the midfielder.
