Conor Gallagher has expressed his gratitude to Chelsea following his move to Atletico Madrid. The transfer, valued at £33 million, was finalized earlier this week, with Gallagher signing a five-year contract with the La Liga club.
Gallagher, who joined Chelsea at the age of 8, made 95 appearances for the club and was often seen wearing the captain’s armband. Despite his significant contributions, Chelsea decided to sell him as part of their ongoing squad overhaul.
On Instagram, Gallagher shared his reflections: “Thank you to everyone at Chelsea for making my dream come true. It has been a great honor to wear this shirt, and it was a dream come true to captain the team on several occasions. I loved every moment of it. These memories will last forever. I appreciate all the love and support from the fans. Hearing my name being cheered at Stamford Bridge was a special feeling, and the banners you held up meant so much to me. Thank you for everything. I wish the club all the best for the future, and I hope to see you all again soon at Stamford Bridge!”
Gallagher was a key player for Chelsea under former coach Mauricio Pochettino last season, featuring prominently in the Premier League. However, with Chelsea’s extensive summer signings, including Pedro Neto, Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, the decision was made to part ways with the English midfielder.
Chelsea is expected to make additional sales before the transfer window closes, with Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell among those rumored to be on the move following their absence from the Premier League opener against Manchester City.
