The World & Vietnam News updates on the latest Manchester United (MU) player transfer information that occurred in the past hours.
MU Retains Jadon Sancho
On its official website, MU announced the list of players participating in the summer tour, including Jadon Sancho. This may indicate that the Red Devils have decided to keep the English forward.
Previously, some English newspapers reported that PSG had approached and persuaded Sancho to join Parc des Princes.
Rasmus Hojlund Officially Given MU’s Number 9 Jersey
At the beginning of July 2024, MU officially parted ways with Anthony Martial. Leaving Old Trafford, the French forward left behind the number 9 jersey. It didn’t take long for the Red Devils to choose the next owner of this number.
A few hours ago, MU posted a picture on its official website of Rasmus Hojlund smiling and holding the number 9 jersey with his name on it. Thus, the 21-year-old striker has officially been given this number starting from the 2024/25 season.
This is the third time Hojlund has worn the number 9 jersey in his career. Previously, the Danish forward wore this number when playing for U19 Copenhagen in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons.
In his only season at Sturm Graz (2021/22), Hojlund was also given the number 9 jersey by the Austrian club. At the national team level, this forward has worn the number 9 jersey since October 2023.
During the summer of 2023, Rasmus Hojlund was signed by MU from Atalanta for £72 million, receiving the number 11 jersey. In the initial phase, this forward continuously scored in the Champions League but struggled in the Premier League. Hojlund went through a 14-match goalless streak in the EPL, only breaking it in round 19 with a goal against Aston Villa.
After “breaking the deadlock,” Hojlund thrived with 6 goals in the next 5 EPL matches. However, the former Atalanta star slowed down in the subsequent phase, scoring only 3 more goals in the last 10 rounds. Nevertheless, with 16 goals in all competitions, Hojlund’s debut season at MU can be considered satisfactory.
The number 9 jersey is both a reward and a challenge for Rasmus Hojlund, as the strikers who have worn this number for MU over the past decade have not performed convincingly.
Since Dimitar Berbatov left Old Trafford in 2012, the number 9 jersey has been worn by Radamel Falcao, Anthony Martial, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Romelu Lukaku.
These four forwards share a common trait of inconsistent performance. In the 2023/24 season, Martial played only 19 matches, contributing just 2 goals and 1 assist.
Since Hojlund has received the number 9, newcomer Joshua Zirkzee may wear the number 11 jersey left by the Danish forward. Additionally, the 23-year-old striker might also be given the number 19, Raphael Varane’s former number.

MU “Sacrifices” Wan-Bissaka for Mazraoui
Noussair Mazraoui is a target for MU to upgrade the right-back position. According to the Daily Mirror, the Red Devils will have to sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka if they sign Bayern Munich’s defender. The Bavarians are asking for £16 million for Mazraoui.
Goalkeeper De Gea to Decide Future This Week
According to The Athletic, David De Gea is being courted by three clubs (one from Saudi Arabia, one from Italy, and one from the USA). The 33-year-old goalkeeper is expected to decide his next destination this week.
If he still cannot make a choice, De Gea is likely to retire. The Spanish goalkeeper has been unemployed since July 2023.
MU Shows Unexpected Interest in Chalobah
According to English media, MU has shown interest in Trevoh Chalobah. This center-back was excluded from Chelsea’s tour, making it likely he will leave this summer. Chalobah is currently valued at £25 million.
Amrabat Wants to Return
According to Tutto Mercato, Sofyan Amrabat wants to return to MU, where he played on loan in the 2023/24 season.
Fiorentina wants to resolve this deal quickly to find a replacement. The Italian club is targeting Chelsea’s young midfielder Cesare Casadei.
Considering Selling 7 Players
According to ESPN, MU is considering offers for Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Christian Eriksen.
Additionally, the Red Devils are also ready to sell Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Antony, and Jadon Sancho if the price they set for these 4 players is met.
