Captain Bruno Fernandes criticized his teammates for playing football too individually, thereby not being able to finish off their opponents early.
Last night, in the fourth round of the FA Cup, M.U marched to Newport County’s field. The Red Devils soon had 2 goals in the lead thanks to Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo. However, Newport then scored 2 goals in a row, equalizing 2-2.
Luckily for M.U, Antony and Rasmus Hojlund scored respectively, winning 4-2 and reaching the 5th round.
Speaking after the match, captain Bruno Fernandes expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s performance. The Portuguese midfielder affirmed that M.U could not finish off the opponent early because his teammates played too individually.
“No, obviously not the result we wanted. We wanted to win, we achieved it but it wasn’t the perfect result for us.
We should have ended the match in the first half, we could have scored 3 more goals. However, in the context of the team leading 2-0, everyone focused on scoring goals and that was sometimes not the best decision. After that, the opponent scored 2 consecutive goals. Anyway, after being equalized, we tried our best to win,” Bruno shared.
M.U will face Bristol City or Nottingham Forest in the 5th round of the FA Cup. After the win against Newport County, next Friday, coach Erik ten Hag and his team will return to the Premier League with a visit to Wolverhampton’s stadium.
